WWMT Newschannel 3: GVSU hosts Grand Rapids Cyber Security Conference

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – More than 250 business leaders were on the Grand Valley State University campus Wednesday for the Grand Rapids Cyber Security Conference.

The free conference was organized by the Better Business Bureau and a local IT managed services provider, Trivalent Group, to train companies on how to better protect themselves from hackers.

The keynote speaker at the event was an attorney from the Federal Trade Commission, who is prosecuting cyber criminals.

“Even at the highest levels of government security, we’re struggling to keep up with this thing, so it’s up to each and every one of us to get more education on how to protect our computers and our systems from being hacked into,” said Phil Catlett, with the Better Business Bureau.

Speakers at Wednesday’s event also trained businesses on the steps to take after they’ve been the victims of a cyber attack.
